SEXUAL HARASSMENT PREVENTION TRAINING
The Coast Guard is committed to maintaining a work environment free from unlawful discriminatory practices and inappropriate behavior. Sex discrimination refers to the practice of wrongfully treating men and women differently in the workplace, solely because of their gender. Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination that involves unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature when submission or rejection of the advances influence a person's job, pay, or career, interferes with their performance, or creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment.
Sexual harassment is not limited to relations between members of the Coast Guard or Coast Guard Auxiliary personnel; the recipient of the harassment can include members of the boating public, students of public education classes, marine dealers, and others who have contact with the Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary. The frequent interaction between the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the public necessitates a definite training plan for sexual harassment prevention.
The key to preventing sexual harassment is personal leadership and commitment. Those who are in positions of elected or appointed office must commit themselves to promoting sexual harassment prevention training.
Therefor, it is mandatory that all members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary receive this training at least one time. All new Auxiliarists shall receive this training during the first year of their membership. This is the responsibility of the Flotilla Commander, however training may be accomplished at a Division meeting, or at another Flotilla meeting. Reports of this training shall become a matter of record.
